Ep 29: Lauren Pelkey - Children’s Author and Travel Writer

Angela de Burger

Lauren Pelkey was bitten by the travel bug after a study-abroad experience and she’s never looked back. Her love of exploring new areas in the world led her to create a popular travel blog called Wanderluluu, and her photographs capture people’s imaginations thanks to her fun Instagram account. She even had a job where she hosted retreats in some of the most exotic locations around the world!

Originally from the United States, Lauren first moved to Australia and then went on to explore 29 different countries across 5 continents. Now, she calls Bogotá, Colombia home.

Lauren built her life and career around her love of travel. So you can imagine that over the past year, due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, she’s had to get very creative. She started envisioning the things she wanted for her future and she’s making them happen.

Some of that creative brainstorming led to her latest project - writing a children’s book. “Wally The Wandering Wallaby” introduces children to the idea of exploring the globe and is now out in the world!

On this episode, host Angela de Burger chats with Lauren about why travel became such an important part of her life, how she blends her writing and photography to create engaging stories, the value she sees in collaborative learning experiences, and how she put herself in a headspace that allowed her to envision a new future.
